What is Counselling?

Life can be challenging and difficult. I provide a confidential, caring service to enable you to reflect on your life, to explore and experience your innermost thoughts and feelings. I admire individuals and couples for coming into therapy, for making a considered investment in their own professional and personal well-being and taking a proactive approach in their own lives.

As an Integrative Counsellor I work closely with you so that I can support you in finding the answers. I help you to help yourself, to deal with things differently and make the changes you need. Being listened to and understood in this setting can enable you to make positive changes in your life.

I incorporate Psychodynamic, Cognitive and Transpersonal approaches in my Integrative Counselling. Working with each client is unique and how I work with you is determined by the difficulties you are experiencing in your life at the time and what you are hoping from the sessions.

The psychodynamic approach means that we may look at important events throughout your life and how they may have impacted on you. If you feel you wish to focus on a specific challenge in your life we would work in a solution focused way.

Transpersonal includes, and goes beyond the realm of psychology and emotions and explores deeper meaning and purpose to crisis and the problems we experience. It is based on the belief that through crisis we grow and develop our full potential as human and spiritual beings.

The assessment session would consist of you telling me more about yourself and the difficulties you are facing, deciding whether or not I am the right therapist for you and to give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Subsequent sessions are for 50 minutes, usually on a regular, weekly basis. The number of sessions are negotiable and available on a short or long term basis.

I am respectful and affirmative of difference and diversity in race, ethnicity, culture, sexuality, gender, physical ability and spirituality.

I am bound by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy ethical frame work for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy. As part of this Code of Ethics we discuss cases in supervision, but I ensure that confidentiality is not compromised.
